Urban poor group KADAMAY calls for the swift removal of disbarred lawyer Larry Gadon from recent appointment as Marcos Jr’s adviser on Poverty Alleviation, saying that this appointment mirrors the Marcos family’s historical practice of placing cronies and sycophants in key government positions to consolidate political power and foster corruption.

The announcement of Gadon’s appointment was met with widespread dismay, fueled by his well-documented history of questionable antics and blatant incompetence. However, in an interesting turn of events, the Supreme Court swiftly issued a unanimous decision to disbar Gadon, immediately following his appointment.

The group further questioned Malacañang’s commitment to addressing poverty by appointing an individual whose credibility and credentials are questionable. This issue cannot be taken lightly, particularly given the current state of the country’s struggling economy and the fact that a significant 51% of Filipinos identify as poor.
